This is the 4th bag review I have done. The first three can be found here: The Abby and The Rose both by Jo Totes {now called Johansen} and The Juju by Kelly Moore.
The Shootsac review is long overdue as I’ve had it for about 4 years or so. It’s NOT a camera bag but a lens bag. I have the older slimmer version – they came out with a wider version a few months after I got mine, so my review will take this into consideration.
This bag is as expected a great lens changing bag but needs to be a lot wider to allow room for bigger professional lenses. My old version is tight although it does stretch. For example, the lens hood of my 70-200 2.8G lens always gets stuck inside when I take the lens out. The same with the 24-70 2.8G. My bag is not great for lens hoods. I assume the wider version has this issue sorted.
It is a stretch to put in 3 professional lenses and squeeze in a speed light or two on the back flaps, though still possible while using the remaining 6th compartment on the back for batteries and remote triggers.
The removable and inter-changeable flap cover is a nice touch especially with the inside of the flap cover doubling up as a lens cleaner. I also like that it is so soft and the material doesn’t crease and always retains its shape.
I don’t know what the improved version is but as a bag meant for changing lenses, this looked a bit on the slim side for me, perhaps prioritising form over function. For my personal work requirements, I would need to be carrying with me 3 lenses, 2 flashes, memory cards and batteries with me to a shoot especially shoots that require me to be quite mobile and active.
I have stuck tape around the metal hardware clasps as I’m just not that confident enough that they will hold if accidentally flicked open.
A great idea but has plenty of room for improvement. You can get the Shootsac Lens bag – basic black
