It’s not often that I get a wedding that is photographed {almost} exclusively indoors. It’s not everyday I get a Gatsby wedding either. But when you see inside Le Meridien‘s glass chandelier-lined ceilings and guilded walls, it’s no wonder this wedding was to happen right inside the very heart of London city’s Piccadilly. Gold and black were the colour of the day: elegant F. Scott Fitzgerald books, golden goblets and handmade 1920s style pearl ornaments adorned the tables under the transparent glass chandeliers. Guests came dressed in flapper fashion, taking in the 1920 atmosphere to the sound of talented saxophonist Brendan‘s music filling the air.
But what made Paul and Evgeniya’s wedding extra special was the multi-cultural celebration that it was: Russian, Jamaican, Irish and English cultures all into one memorable Gatsby-themed day. This marriage of cultures was reflected in their ceremony, some rituals and readings, the cuisine served – of course with vodka as refreshments, and to top it all, their mutual admiration for Michael Jackson featured as a flash mob Thriller cutting through their first dance which was to Aretha Franklin‘s Call Me. All in all it was a wedding to remember for all time. Congratulations Paul and Evgeniya and all the best to your exciting new adventures ahead!
Thanks to my wonderful second-shooter Rachel Head, the gorgeous wedding planner Ayshea Donaldson, Brendan Mills – saxophonist, DJs Lovelight, Ruth Bentley of Hayford and Rhodes for the flowers, the very helpful staff at Le Meridien Piccadilly, Cakes by Shalini, and last but certainly not least the bride’s lovely Mum who made her 1920s style wedding dress!
