Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
– Robert Frost
I still have clear memories of my secondary school literature teacher reading poems and stories soulfully, with such deep emotion, teaching us to read between the lines, to go beyond the obvious, to push past barriers, and to take the road less travelled by.
I took these photos on a walk with my husband one cold winter’s day before photographing Gemma and Shem’s wedding in Wotton House Dorking. The sky at dusk was ablaze with winter colour, that subtle but deep shade of orange and red hiding behind the mist that chose to stay all day and all night long. The light faded ever step of the way through windy icy paths. On the way back we took the road most travelled by in pitch black conditions we could hardly see in front of our faces if not for the light from our phones leading us back to our hotel. Inside was warm and twinkly with huge Christmas trees adorned with a million fairy lights. We hankered down on the sofa waiting for our food enjoying some quiet time together. But not for long, our phones lit up…the kids were wanting FaceTime…
