It’s just been over a month since Crawfest and yet the memories of the day are as clear in my head as if it was only yesterday. The fresh and clean air in the wide open country, rolling hills of North Hill Farm set in the Chilterns, colourful tents pitched around the reception marquee, kites {both bird and toy} overhead…summer love was written all over it.
Traditional games like coconut shy, boules, welly-wanging {!!!}, kite flying, space hoppers kept the children and adults alike entertained. Buntings adorned everything, festoon lights aglow next to them. Pompoms and hand-made crepe flowers added more colour to an already vibrant scene, vintage lampshades swayed from the ceiling.
Crawfest was in full swing… wonderfully refreshing homemade drinks, crates of apples and oranges, tables beautifully adorned with wild flowers in beer bottles and jam jar vases decorated with lace, platters of ploughman’s dinner, safari Photo Booth, homemade cream tea, gorgeous wedding cake with totally edible fresh flowers, fancy-dress parade, tug-of-war, music and dancing, marshmallows on the bonfire, sparklers whirling in the darkness, stories and chatter into the night, bonfire under the moonlight, and the smell {and taste} of freshly cooked full English breakfast early next morning.
It was a day of celebration… of family, friends, and best of all, love. Andy and Grace vowed to love each other “tying the knot” in a hand fasting ceremony symbolised by pieces of cords and ribbons tied around their wrists. The guests were invited to hang cords and ribbons on the arch {lovingly made by the groom no less} as as sign of love, friendship and support. An unforgettable glorious summer wedding.
