Family portraits in award-winning architectural space Room in a Room | Canary Wharf

Today’s Timeless Tuesday post is a portrait session in one of the most exciting rooms in London – room in a room. To say this space is incredible is an understatement. Tucked in a corner in London’s historical Limehouse district near Westferry Circus and Canary Wharf, room in a room was once a family home of sweet newborn twins who have now outgrown the space, leaving room in a room to the enjoyment of visitors wanting a taste of East London’s rich multicultural and enthralling offerings.

Designed by Atmos Studio, stepping into room in a room feels like being immersed in an intoxicating and surreal world of creative architecture that gives the illusion of fluidity and movement, with its sinuous wooden details that seem to grow organically from floor to ceiling enveloping you with a warm and cocooning ambience, yet thoroughly elegant and contemporary.

Room in a room has garnered architecture awards: winner of the 2013 UK Wood Award, finalist in the Architects Journal 2013 Small Project Award and has been featured on BBC2 in the House that £100k built. Now the twins are 6 and were only too happy to visit room in a room for some fun yet memory-filled portraits of themselves in what was their very first home. Their secret play den still exists complete with table, chairs and some toys, cleverly hidden underneath room in a room and they didn’t waste a moment to get back into their play routine upon arrival.

They savoured dancing on what was once their parents’ bed under the glow of hidden lighting behind an exquisite walnut veneer designed to look like distant mountains with reflections on water, reminiscent of their Mum’s Chinese hometown. As if that experience wasn’t enough, we then headed to nearby Westferry Circus for some portraits by the river under the illuminated London skyline.
