Inspiration is a lifeline. It’s easy to fall in a rut and hard to get out of it quickly enough. I have days when I’m just sat in front of my computer editing away, or hammering on my keyboard trying to get words out for blogs and articles. Recently I went to a funfair with my family and watched a few dance numbers on show. It felt invigorating and made me think I needed to go out more and get a life! Actually, I just needed some inspiration to fuel any dormant creative juices and get going again.
Inspiration can come from anywhere – creation, musicals, shows, books, art, anything that has been created with passion and soul. One of my go-to activities for instant inspiration is visiting galleries. I drag my kids from time to time to visit The National Gallery and take them through my favourite artists: the impressionists and expressionists. Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Degas, Manet, Pissaro, Seurat…. they are all at the National and you can take pictures of these paintings too!
Just looking at these works of art is like water to the soul, fresh, colourful, life-giving. And the bigger the canvas, usually the more intoxicating. Once again I marvel at creation and the Creator with a happy heart. And I just promised myself to take paints on holiday this summer and paint something – anything! What’s your source of inspiration today?
